I turned up a little early having booked a table at 12 solo not realising they opened at 12. I felt a little awkward at first as a solo diner but the waitress was very kind and attentive. I ordered a fish soup for starter then the kid aka goat for main. The soup was delicious and creamy with wholesome pieces of fish. The goat was very strong in flavour and cooked to perfection. All the other elements too were cooked amazingly well and was just the right portion. Overall one of the cheapest places to eat here in Norway and tastiest.
Excellent! Great home cooked meal. I recommend reservations or pull up to the bar. Yum!!! Meatballs and fish soup. Bread and butter was out of this world!!
Had a great dinner here on our final night in Bergen. Trendy but casual spot with well-prepared traditional foods. We had the cheese plate, lapskaus, and meatballs, with gluten-free bread.
This is it, no nonsense original Norwegian food. Very satisfying experience. If you need chic gadgets around you stay away. But if you want to leave your table full and happy I recommend Pingvinen to you. I believe the decoration is not vintage but original seventies. Mega.
Can't get any better! I had a few friends with us from abroad and of course I had to show them Pingvinen. We shared many different dishes, no complaints at all. The selection of craft beers was also excellent, together with very friendly staff. I like the relaxed atmosphere here.
This is a really nice restaurant, will probably even say the best one in Bergen. It was so good that after almost a week in Bergen and trying different restaurants, I went back a second time. Over the two visits, I had the fish soup and the pork cheeks. I love pork cheeks as a dish and it is something I eat back in my home country, and these are some of the best pork cheeks I have ever had. They were cooked perfectly as they were super tender and the sauce was great. Also the mashed potatoes was amazing. If there is a restaurant to visit in Bergen it is this one.
Pretty expansive menu at reasonable prices for Norway. Service is attentive and speedy. Place gets busy after work hours. English menu is available. Got the Thursday special with potato dumplings, which were quite good. Salty and decadent, so a beverage is required to wash it all down.
We stumbled upon this restaurant and it ended up being the best food we ate during our trip to Bergen. The fish soup is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life and we couldn’t find anything that came close to comparing on the rest of our trip through Norway. The staff there were so lovely & helpful and the restaurant was so cute on an evening with little candles everywhere. Would highly highly recommend. Also, definitely try the Plukkfisk.
